NO LO SO Via Luigi Varanini 5 Milano Happy hour from 18 to 21.30 Price: starting from € 8 What to eat and drink The buffet offers some hot dishes, such as lasagne, pasta or baked potatoes, then many cooked and raw vegetables, salads (good the one with spelled flavored with pesto), couscous, sauerkraut, focaccia and pizzas. Great choice for vegetarians and vegans. Under the pink neon lights, some red condiments take on suggestive psychedelic colors, both attractive and disturbing. List of classic cocktails very long and complete (but the ingredients are not shown on the menu); plus some house cocktails, often with the presence of fruit, some of which (playing with the gay friendness of the venue) with unpronounceable names, such as Anal or Succhi (Suck). Negroni and Spritz seemed a bit light to our taste. Ambience The name jokes about its location in the district of NoLo (North Loreto): in fact, the restaurant overlooks a side street of Viale Monza, between Pasteur and Rovereto, in an area full of strong competitors such as Bar Tender, Il Tempio d'oro, Ghe pensi mi. Between the sidewalk and the entrance, in the summer, you can sit at some outdoor tables, among the rainbow flags and the plants that surround the window. Otherwise you can sit inside: a large room with a long counter on one side and thick but comfortable tables of various sizes. Walls played with shades of gray, pink and a greenish-blue light, decorated with paintings, usually in bright colors (when we went, the psychedelic works were inspired by Keith Haring's little men); in the middle of the room a mannequin in dark queen clothes and on the ceiling neon tubes warmed by a pink shade. Being a gay friendly place, the average young clientele is assorted, with various gender combinations of couples and groups, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Dogs are also allowed. Good music play list, although it must be said that the acoustics of the venue is a bit noisy. Also scheduled board-game night, dj-set, brunch. Our opinion Buffet quite tasty (very suitable for vegetarians and vegans), played on special seasonings and a lot of use of vegetables. Informal, modern and relaxed ambience. Correct quality-price ratio.

CIU's Via Spontini 6 Price: 11 € (Plus for cocktail XL) What is there to eat Ciu's is read as choose, and in fact the choice is not lacking in an extremely rich and varied buffet. On the stands there are pizzas and slices of appetizers; primi piatti, hot and cold, Italian and exotic, such as paella, cous cous, spelled salad, pasta with vegetables, pasta with seafood, etc.; secondi like roast beef, chicken, stew (with polenta), fried mixed fish; then hot and cold vegetables such as parmigiana and grilled eggplant, spiced spinach, grilled potatoes, various salads. Finally, also fresh fruit and desserts as a tart with jam and biscuits with custard. The buffet is stocked frequently and the waiters go through the tables with hot food just coming out from the kitchen. Ambience The Chou's is located in Via Spontini (the birthplace of the eponymous legendary pizzeria), a side street of Corso Buenos Aires near Argentina square, so very easy to reach with the red or green line (Loreto o Lima) underground metro and ideally located to refresh themselves after an afternoon of shopping in the city's most commercial artery. It is a long and narrow corridor room (with a slightly larger half space), red walls and wood-beamed ceilings with a full brew-style look. The stands with the meals are at the entrance of the restaurant; if you are in the last tables you will have to go a long way along the tables to go to supply. Cocktails and some snacks are brought directly to the tables. Fast and multilingual service (many Latin Americans present). The tables are not a few, but the venue is very crowded and in peak evenings it is perhaps advisable to book in advance. Ambience a little noisy. Six television screens also offer the ability to watch football matches. There is also an outdoor garden (also for smokers). Our opinion Slightly higher than the average of the local happy hour, but the plenty of food offer, which allows you to make a dinner eating to satiety, justifies the price, and the variety is such that everyone can find something to their liking. Also happy hour time is very extensive and convenient, from 6pm to 10pm. Discreet cocktails, varied but substantially satisfying quality foods, with some of the most desirable dishes. Does somebody feel the need of a new aperitif venue in the Porta Nuova area, between Corso Garibaldi and Corso Como, one of Milan's most popular area in city movida?
The Nobel, inaugurated on September 8, has a peculiarity that makes it original and different from all others. Preferably seats for couples: two armchairs with individual movable and optionally stackable tables, in order to save space, with adjustable LED lamps for each seating; available in a room between the armchairs, a bag of bread and a bottle of water, in addition to the set with cutlery and napkin. The entrance ticket includes a drink and a choice of three menus: the "Thelma" (focaccia with stracciatella – a kind of mozzarella - e anchovies), the "Erin" (fassona meatballs with bbq sauce), the "Lisbeth" (selection of cheeses with onions and pear mustard). To drink, a selection of bubbles, red and white wines, beers and traditional Campari or Aperol spritz. The quantity is certainly not such as to replace a dinner, but the quality of the dishes, and even the drinks, is great. Table service, attentive and discreet. Everything, cuisine, beverage selection and service, cared for and guaranteed by Eataly (which now dominates the nearby XXV April square). So what makes the Nobel unique among the aperitifs venues? Do not mention menu names? And if we add Louise, Brokovich, Millenium? Those are the names of female protagonists of some famous movies. Because the Nobel, in fact, is a real movie theater inserted inside the new Palazzo del Cinema created by Anteo, expanding the historical site of Via Milazzo. 18 places all over (we suggest to book in advance) and discreet and elegant ambiance (although the effect is a bit from the aerial business class). Food and drinks are served before the start of the film and individual lights allow you to see what you eat without disturbing other audience. The screen is obviously not great, but in any case the theatrical effect is guaranteed: you will have the unprecedented chance to combine happy hour and (eventually) happy end ... In addition to the aperitif there is also a dinner option. We still have no indication of the prices charged, as there were special conditions for the inauguration. Indeed, we were the first viewers of the first show of the first day at Nobel, also greeted with a glass of good prosecco. Positive experience; of course, eating while the film runs through, inevitably discards a little look and concentration from the screen; and perhaps a choice of finger food, instead of dishes that require the use of fork and knife, could have been preferable. For logistical reasons, a bit of disused custom is back: the break in the middle of the movie screening. The projection stops and the lights turn on to allow the staff to clear the tables and take any extra orders. PACINO CAFE'
Piazzale Bacone, 9 - Milan Price: 8 € What is there to eat The buffet offers tartens, bruschette, stuffed muffins, cheese, mortadella cubes, raw and cooked vegetables and three hot dishes (in our case pasta with pesto and tomatoes, pasta with aubergines and spelled salad). Ambience The bar overlooks a very lively square with indoor and outdoor tables and is easy to reach from the busy Corso Buenos Aires and Piazza Argentina. Minimal but elegant furnishings, nice exterior between the green and, inside, a library available to customers. Good quality and non-invasive musical background. Opinion Good cocktails; the buffet is not particularly rich and original but good in quality and constantly stocked. The place is in a nice area; the square has a central garden with cycle track and games for the kids. The center is very close and you can safely walk to Corso Buenos Aires. Friendly staff. CRISA'S BAR Sarlone Street (2 km from Chiavenna) Borgonuovo di Piuro If you find yourself nearby Chiavenna (on the road to Madesimo or Saint-Moritz - but worth visiting itself), you can find numerous places to enjoy a good aperitif sitting outdoors at the tables in the stretch of historic center between the Bertacchi and Pestalozzi squares, in a pleasant and lively context. We want to advise you, however, an alternative "out of doors", a couple kilometers from the center of Chiavenna (in the municipality of Piuro), more rustic and panoramic. We are talking about CRISA'S BAR kiosk, where you can enjoy a spritz (Aperol and Prosecco) accompanied by chips and pizzas or tasting of bresaola and local cheeses, right in front of the waterfalls of Acqua Fraggia, a spectacular, 170-meter high water jumping precipitated downstream among vapors and frequent rainbows. If you like such things, sitting at the table, you can also take a photo with the waterfall in the background that seems to fall into the glass! Sunbathing area, outdoor tables with umbrellas, children's playground, ping-pong table, toilet, parking at a short distance. Cheap prices and a very impressive panorama, already appreciated (along with nearby taverns) from an exceptional opinion leader as Leonardo da Vinci… Moscatelli
Corso Garibaldi, 93 - Milano Price: 8 € What is there to eat The cold buffet consists of cold cuts, mozzarella and tomato, ricotta cheese with rocket salad, raw vegetables with mustard sauce, various cooked vegetables, omelet, pasta salad, chicken salad, hot dogs, pizza and good stuffed focaccia. Ambience The restaurant is in one of the trendiest and most visited areas in Milan, between Corso Como and Brera, with internal rooms and some outdoor seatings. International customers. Opinion Moscatelli was a historic wine shop with a picturesque owner, vintage already decades ago. Now is a local still cozy, but retains only part of the original charm. Cocktails are normal. Overall a good proposal, with good value for money, whose strength is to be in the heart of Milan's nightlife. Moscatelli
Corso Garibaldi, 93 - Milano Price: 8 € What is there to eat The buffet consists of cold cuts, mozzarella and tomato, ricotta cheese with rocket salad, raw vegetables with mustard sauce, various cooked vegetables, pasta salad, chicken salad, hot dogs, pizza and stuffed focaccia. Ambience Local between Corso Como and Brera with some tables both indoors and outdoors. Opinion It was originally a historic wine shop though little now remains of the original local charm. Standard cocktail. Overall a good proposal with a good value for money in one of the busiest areas of the nightlife in Milan. AL CANTINONE
Via Agnello,19 - Milan Price: 10 € What is there to eat: the buffet is in part self service and partly served and includes pizzas, bruschetta, polenta with dried tomatoes, vegetable frittata, various cold cuts, a first course, meat loaf, sausage, lots of vegetables. At the table they serve a fried dumpling basket and a first heat. Ambience: very centrally located restaurant (behind the Duomo) in Old Milan style, not very large with small tables. At the weekend it is best to book. Opinion: there is a list of drinks that are listed by the maid: classic cocktails, beers, non-alcoholic wine and house cocktail (sweet or dry). We have tried a sweet non-alcoholic cocktails and a Negroni, both good and without that huge amount of ice that most of the proposed premises. Buffet plentiful, quality ok but some courses like fried dumpling (gnocco fritto), salami and mushroom pasta that they served at the table were especially good. |
